Udo Prinsen curates two music film programs for Eye

Music films at Eye Animation director and artist Udo Prinsen has curated two colorful programs that call attention to the collaboration between filmmakers and musicians. For, as he states, a film is incomplete without a unique soundtrack. Prinsen himself frequently collaborates with composers such as Eric Vloeimans, Martin Fondse, Annie Tångberg, and Oene van Geel. Through Eye’s Short Film Pool, Prinsen aims to encourage theaters and the public to book special programs centered around film and music. It is urgent to celebrate the collaboration between real people now that AI and laziness are gaining increasing influence in film and media productions. Broader context through music Prinsen: “Not only for our own productions, but also at the start of a commissioned film for museums, NGOs, or the government, I always advocate for a soundtrack and audio design performed by musicians. Budget constraints do not always allow for this, but it is good to start the conversation and explain how a professional soundtrack can elevate your film, art, or media production to a higher level and a broader context.” Film, music & experiment One reason for the collaboration with the Eye Short Film Pool is his concept Mini Music Movies, in which he offers an experimental platform for research with labels, producers, and musicians. Short experiments and research lead to larger and long-running film and art projects. On June 15, 2024, during the broadcast of the Dag van de Componist event, Prinsen will speak about the creation of the programs. The event is organized annually by Platform New Music Now to celebrate the work of contemporary Dutch composers.
