Cabinet - Actors Wanted for polished festival production
Who are we looking for?
1. The Colleague
Gender: all applicants welcome
Age: 25-40
The Colleague is a senior operative working for a mysterious, bureaucratic organization that deals with anomalies, hidden truths, and dangerous knowledge. They serve as both a grounding presence and a quiet moral compass to the Huntswoman, the story's emotionally burdened lead.
As the deuteragonist of sorts, the Colleague is vital to the emotional fabric of Cabinet. They are calm, thoughtful, and weary — but not broken. There’s a history between them and the Huntswoman, perhaps even unspoken care or camaraderie, and their scenes reflect a mix of restrained emotion, dry pragmatism, and a hint of inner conflict. They try to keep her tethered when she begins to fray under pressure, but they're not always successful, and that failure weighs on them too.
They bring levity in early scenes but shift into deeper territory as the narrative unfolds. They never overplay a moment — their strength lies in what they withhold. They are someone who has seen enough to know how little they can truly control, and yet, they try anyway.
1. Secretary
Gender: Female
Age: 20-50
Description: This Secretary is a calm and collected presence, sitting behind the desk with an air of quiet efficiency. She is polite yet detached, exuding a sense of routine and familiarity with the surreal tasks of the organization. While her role seems mundane on the surface, there’s an underlying air of knowing—she sees more than she says. Her exchanges with the Man are laced with subtle humor and cryptic hints, suggesting she’s deeply embedded in the strange workings of the organization. Actors should portray a composed, unflappable demeanor, with the ability to deliver dialogue with understated wit and intrigue.
2. Dudebro
Gender: Male
Age: 25-40
Description: Dudebro is confident and brash, with a cocky swagger that masks his cunning survival instincts. He is the kind of guy who acts like he’s always in control, even when things go south. Charismatic and quick-witted, his relaxed demeanor turns razor-sharp when the situation demands it. Actors should bring a mix of humor, charm, and intensity to the role, capturing both his laid-back nature and moments of tension.
3. Serious Men (Willie Loman-types)
Gender: Male
Age: 40-60
Description: The Willie Loman-type men are stoic and cryptic figures. They exude an understated authority, appearing as seasoned operatives who have seen it all. Their presence is commanding, their words deliberate. These characters carry the weight of experience and an air of quiet menace, projecting a sense of professionalism that can turn cold and ruthless in an instant.
4. Glasses Guy
Gender: Male
Age: 20-50
Description: A nervous and morally ambiguous figure, Glasses Guy is a new recruit drawn into the mysterious world of the organization. His hesitation and uncertainty contrast with his underlying curiosity and desire to belong. Actors should convey vulnerability, internal conflict, and a subtle sense of growth as the character grapples with the unknown.
5. New Guy in the Organization
Gender: Male
Age: 20-35
Description: The New Guy is fresh-faced and eager, with a mix of nervous energy and determination to prove himself. His wide-eyed curiosity clashes with the grim reality of the organization’s work, and he often struggles to keep up with its demands. Actors should bring a youthful, relatable quality to the role, portraying someone stepping into an intimidating and surreal environment for the first time.
