De Filmacademie leidt studenten op tot internationaal toonaangevende, vernieuwende en ondernemende makers van audiovisuele producties. In de opleiding zijn kwaliteit, creativiteit, urgentie, innovatie en maatschappelijke betrokkenheid leidraad. De internationale verteltraditie vormt de culturele omgeving van de opleiding. Daarbij staat onderzoek naar een permanente vernieuwing en verdieping van de cultuur van het vertellen van verhalen in beeld en geluid voorop.

The Netherlands Film and Television Academy was founded in 1958. It was founded by Dr. JML Peters (1920-2008). Each year, around 70 students graduate from the eight Bachelor's programs and the Master's program of the Netherlands Film and Television Academy. The academy has more than 60 permanent employees and approximately 200 guest lecturers. Since 1999, the Film Academy has been housed in a building on Markenplein, which meets all the requirements of current film education.
