KLAUS KINSKI RETROSPECTIVE
With a striking face and a temperament that made many shudder, Klaus Kinski is one of the most remarkable extras in European film history. The actor was born in Poland in 1926, grew up in Berlin, and developed into a controversial theatrical phenomenon in post-war Germany. In the 1960s and 70s, the tireless Kinski focused on a capricious and impressive film career that would take him from Berlin, via Rome and Paris, to California, where he died in 1991 at the age of 65. The actor became world-famous through his turbulent collaboration with Werner Herzog, who made five masterful films with his 'dearest enemy,' thereby sadly overshadowing a diverse oeuvre of 122 titles. With a retrospective of 21 films and two exhibitions, the Melkweg gives ample space to Klaus Kinski: artist, hothead, and cult star.
