Ricky Rijneke's Dutch feature film debut Silent Ones has been selected for the international competition of the 2014 Berlin Independent Film Festival, which
takes place from February 8 to 18.

The Berlin Independent Film Festival takes place parallel to the Berlinale. The festival focuses on first and second films. The main program consists of sixteen feature films.

The lead role in Silent Ones is played by Hungarian actress and Berlinale shooting star Orsi Toth, who has appeared in Delta (Cannes Fipresci Award), Women Without Men (Silver Lion Venice), and The Notebook (Grand Prix Karlovy Vary), among others.

Silent Ones tells the story of a young Hungarian woman (Orsi Tóth) who, after her younger brother Isti disappears, sets off aboard a cargo ship to fulfill her promise to him. Then the shady Gábor crosses her path.
A surreal trip balancing on the edge of life and death.

The film was previously nominated for the Tiger Award, the competition program, and the flagship of the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Subsequently, it was screened at a dozen festivals, including New Horizons in Poland, Budapest, Moscow, Sarajevo, Prague, Mumbai, Sao Paulo, Montreal, and Los Angeles. The film won various awards, including Best Cinematography, Best Actor, and Best Debut.

Silent Ones was produced by Rotterdam Films (Rijneke & van Leeuwaarden) and was made possible with support from the Netherlands Film Fund and the Mondriaan Fund. International sales are handled by the French sales agent Wide Management. Distributor Contact Film will release the film in the Netherlands soon.
