On the closing night of the Asian Project Market (Busan International Film Festival), EXOTIC PICTURES received the ARTE International Prize. The project is a collaboration between Lemming Film and the renowned Indonesian filmmaker Edwin and his production company Babibutafilm. The ARTE International Prize comes with a sum of €6,000 for project development.

The film Exotic Pictures will explore the long and suppressed history between the Dutch and the Indonesians through war, sex, desire, and betrayal. The story takes place on Bali in four different periods between 1940 and the late 1950s. The film is directed by Indonesian director Edwin, who is writing the screenplay together with Marco van Geffen.

Edwin's short film Kara, Daughter of a Tree was the first Indonesian short film to be selected for the Director's Fortnight (Cannes Film Festival 2005). His feature film debut Blind Pig who Wants to Fly (2008) had its world premiere at the Busan Film Festival, after which the film won various awards at many film festivals worldwide. With his latest film Postcards from the Zoo, Edwin became the first Indonesian director in competition at the Berlin Film Festival in 2012.

Screenwriter and director Marco van Geffen wrote several award-winning screenplays and directed various short films, of which *Het Zusje* was selected for the competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007. His feature film debut *Onder Ons* had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival, where the film won two awards. For the screenplay of his second feature film *In jouw Naam*, he received the International Relations ARTE Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is expected in theaters in the spring of 2014.

Exotic Pictures was presented at Paris Projects 2013 and at the Production Platform of the Netherlands Film Festival. The film is produced by Lemming Film and Babibutafilm. Pallas Film is attached to the project as the German co-producer.
