Ricky Rijneke's feature film debut Silent Ones has been selected for the innovative Operation Kino Program, which is part of the official selection of the Sarajevo International Film Festival.

Sarajevo, with its 100,000 visitors, is considered the most important festival in the Balkans; it is also one of the largest film festivals in Europe.
Operation Kino is supported by the European media program MEDIA Mundus and is an initiative of a number of film festivals, including Sarajevo, Sofia, Transylvania, and Istanbul.

After the films have been screened in the official programs of the film festivals, a broader audience is reached and the festival atmosphere is continued with the innovative distribution model Operation Kino.
The selection from the film program will be screened in cinemas in various cities and countries for a year.
In cooperation with Reelport GmbH, a number of participating titles are also offered on the Operation Kino Video on Demand Platform.

Silent Ones was nominated earlier this year for the Tiger Award Competition, the flagship of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where the film had its world premiere. The film was very positively received by the trade press.
The International Cinephile Society (ICS): 'A powerful, very self-assured debut, Silent Ones confirms that the director is one to watch.' The reviewer compared the film to the work of Bruno Dumont, while Festivalists spoke of an 'impressive debut feature' and referenced the work of Tarkowski and Béla Tarr.
The Dutch press was also very complimentary. De Volkskrant spoke of a wonderful discovery and called the film a confident, disruptive directorial debut.

The film previously won two European awards at the European Film Festival Lecce, Italy: the award for Best Cinematography and the award for Best Supporting Actor.
The film tells the story of the young Hungarian woman (Orsi Tóth) who, after her younger brother Isti disappears, sets off aboard a cargo ship to fulfill her promise to him.
A surreal trip balancing on the edge of life and death.

Silent Ones is Ricky Rijneke's first feature film. Previously, she made her first short, award-winning 'WING, the fish that talked back', which was selected for more than 50 international film festivals, including the competition at the prestigious Locarno International Film Festival.

Silent Ones was produced by Rotterdam Films (Rijneke & van Leeuwaarden), which specializes in arthouse films. The film was made possible in part with support from the Netherlands Film Fund and the Mondriaan Fund.
Distributor Contact Film will release the film in Dutch cinemas in late 2013. The international sales rights are held by the French sales agent Wide Management.
Ricky Rijneke is currently working on her new feature film Hotel Europa.
