Write a screenplay that will be made into a film. Unique project in Groningen.
Schrijversvakschool Groningen, Forum and Liga '68 are working hard to realize a special film project.
The first part of this project, writing a joint screenplay, will start at the beginning of October in the form of a screenplay course at Schrijversvakschool Groningen.
The starting point is what is called an arena in screenwriting: a place where everything and everyone comes together. A village, municipality or neighborhood in the province of Groningen: Uithuizen, Middelstum, Veendam, the Red Neighborhood… The characters move there, with a common theme: schism.

Schrijversvakschool Groningen director Pauline Durlacher: 'Scenario teacher Bennie Roeters came to me with the proposal to also film the scenarios that his students developed in his lessons.'
Roeters: 'My lessons always stop at the moment when things really get tense. The student has more or less mastered the subject, there is a scenario. But then I close the door behind me and leave the student behind. At the same time, I often see films by novice makers where the screenplay, the story, is the weak link.'

By entering into a partnership with Forum and Liga '68, the forerunner of Forumimages, Durlacher and Roeters believe they will create the opportunity for up-and-coming writers, directors, actors and other film collaborators to make a film together and thus gain experience. This under the guidance of professional filmmakers, preferably with northern roots.
Roeters: 'As a native of Groningen, I still have contact with the city and the surrounding countryside and I know that a film climate is emerging. I want to clear up the misunderstanding that you have to be in Amsterdam if you want to continue with film.'
That is also Durlacher's experience. 'At Schrijversvakschool Groningen you notice that there is considerable potential for writers. To good writers. We hope to give them that last push, or sometimes a nudge, in the direction of craftsmanship.'
