Maartje Remmers has been added to the cast of the feature film LUCIA DE B. by Paula van der Oest, about The Hague nurse Lucia de Berk, played by Ariane Schluter, who spent over six years in prison due to a wrongful conviction for the murder of multiple patients before being acquitted in 2010 following a review.

Maartje Remmers plays the role of court clerk Antoinette van Boesschoten, a colleague of Judith Jansen, played by Sallie Harmsen, through whose eyes the story is told. Antoinette has more experience than Judith and is highly capable, yet she must watch as Judith surpasses her in the successful handling of the Lucia case. When Judith begins to side with Lucia, Antoinette becomes the Public Prosecutor's new right-hand woman.

Maartje: "I am very happy with my role in this intriguing story. Moniek Kramer's script grabbed me by the throat immediately, and director Paula van der Oest is of course known for her strong female roles, so I consider it an honor and a challenge to get to work with her, Sallie Harmsen, Ariane Schluter, and all the others."

Maartje Remmers graduated from the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2001. After graduating, she founded the acting group Wunderbaum (formerly Jonghollandia) with five classmates, with whom she created many productions both at home and abroad. In 2007, they received the Mary Dresselhuys Prize, and in 2010, the coveted Proscenium Prize.

As an actress, Maartje is further known from the feature film IK OMHELS JE MET DUIZEND ARMEN and the TV series LIJN 32. Additionally, Maartje played a major role as Monic Hendrickx's sister in the first season of the critically acclaimed TV series PENOZA. She also played the title role in the Telefilm STELLA'S OORLOG.

Shooting for the feature film LUCIA DE B. began this month. Distributor Independent Films will release the film in cinemas on March 20, 2014.
