Ricky Rijneke's feature film debut Silent Ones won the Best Cinematography award and the Best Supporting Actor award at the recent edition of the 14th European Film Festival in Lecce, Italy.
The international jury was chaired by the Italian Grazia Volpi, producer of all films by Vittorio & Paolo Taviani (Golden Bear Berlin 2012).
The jury report: 'The magnificent photography makes the landscape come alive and reflects the changes in the main characters mood in a beautiful way'
The laudatory Italian press compared the film to the work of the Dardenne Brothers and the films of Antonioni.

Silent Ones was nominated for the Tiger Award earlier this year. This competition is the flagship of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where the film had its world premiere. The film was very positively received by the trade press.

The International Cinephile Society (ICS): 'A powerful, very self-assured debut, Silent Ones confirms that the director is one to watch.' The film was compared by the reviewer to the work of Bruno Dumont.
The Dutch press was also very complimentary. De Volkskrant spoke of a wonderful discovery and called the film a confident, disruptive directorial debut.

The film tells the story of the young Hungarian woman (Orsi Tóth) who, after her younger brother Isti disappears, sets off aboard a cargo ship to fulfill her promise to him.

Silent Ones is Ricky Rijneke's first feature film. Previously, she made her first short, the award-winning festival hit 'WING, the fish that talked back', which was selected for the competition of the prestigious Locarno International Film Festival.

Silent Ones was produced by Rotterdam Films (Rijneke & van Leeuwaarden) and was made possible with support from the Netherlands Film Fund and the Mondriaan Fund. Distributor Contact Film will release the film in Dutch cinemas in late 2013. The French sales agent Wide Management has acquired the film and holds the international distribution rights.
