Hamster Film, a joint venture of Lemming Film and Filmhouse Germany, has started the shoot for SPUTNIK. The family film is being shot in Saxony-Anhalt and humorously tells the story of the 'true' circumstances of German reunification from a child's perspective.

Screenwriter and director Markus Dietrich drew inspiration from his own life for his debut film. The story revolves around the young girl Frederike and her friends, who build a teleportation machine to send their beloved Uncle Mike back to East Germany, but accidentally send all the villagers to the West.

Well-known German actors such as Yvonne Catterfeld, Devid Striesow, Maxim Mehmet, and Andreas Schmidt have been cast for the main role.

Sputnik is expected in German cinemas in autumn 2013.
