David Verbeek's new feature film project, DEAD & BEAUTIFUL, has been selected for the Asian Project Market 2012, part of the 17th Busan International Film Festival. The festival selected 30 projects for the Asian Project Market 2012, with DEAD & BEAUTIFUL as the only European project under the banner 'global projects with limitless potential'.

Dead & Beautiful is set in Shanghai and centers around a group of youthful Chinese nouveau riche. They are young, strong, beautiful, super rich, and… bored. Night after night, they frequent Shanghai’s exclusive nightclubs in search of entertainment. Until one morning, they wake up to find themselves transformed into vampires. This draws the group even closer together and makes them even more exclusive; what was the reason for this transformation? What are the possibilities and limitations of their new form? As their new lifestyle becomes increasingly dangerous, love blossoms between two members of the group. They attempt to free themselves from their thirst for blood in order to ultimately find peace.
David Verbeek's earlier feature films, Shanghai Trance and Club Zeus, were selected for the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2008 and 2011. Shanghai Trance received a Tiger Award nomination and was released in cinemas in China. For Club Zeus, he received the Return of the Tiger Award. His feature film, RU There (2010), was selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes and received five Golden Calf nominations, two of which he won. Dead & Beautiful will be David Verbeek's fifth feature film; he is currently working on the screenplay.

Dead & Beautiful is produced by Lemming Film in co-production with Les Petits Lumières (China/France). The film is being made with support from the Netherlands Film Fund. Shooting will take place in Shanghai in 2013, and the film is expected to be released in Chinese cinemas in 2013.
The Busan International Film Festival runs from October 4 to October 13, 2012.
