The film THE ANGEL OF DOEL by Tom Fassaert, produced by SNG Film, has won the Universities Award International Competition at the IX International Film Festival DOCLISBOA in Lisbon.
In this film, we see how the elderly Emilienne and the ailing village priest Verstraete try to keep life in Doel alive, while the small village dies a slow death under the pressure of the encroaching Port of Antwerp. Ultimately, THE ANGEL OF DOEL is about man's struggle against the inevitable: his own transience.
