SONNY BOY, the successful film by MARIA PETERS, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Annejet van der Zijl, has been awarded the special 'Opening Night Award' at the International Stony Brooke Film Festival in New York. Alan Inkles, director of the festival of the same name, declared 'that never before in the rich history of the festival has a film received such an overwhelming standing ovation after the screening'. Lead actors Ricky Koole and Sergio Hasselbaink were also present at the sold-out premiere, as well as Hans Pos, Maria Peters, Annejet van der Zijl, and Remko Nods (son of the now 81-year-old survivor Waldy Nods). Due to this premiere and award, Sonny Boy is attracting interest from various American distributors.
