This is my picture when I was dead by Palestinian screenwriter/director Mahmoud Al Massad (Recycle), who lives in the Netherlands, has been selected for the international spectrum competition at Hot Docs, North America's largest documentary festival. The festival takes place from April 28 to May 8 in Toronto. The film is a joint production of iSee Film and KeyDocs.

iSee Film is the production company of filmmaker Mahmoud Al Massad, who also wrote the screenplay for This is my picture when I was dead.
iSee Film was previously responsible for the widely acclaimed documentary Recycle (2007), winner of the Cinema in Motion Award at the 2007 San Sebastián International Film Festival and the Cinematography Award at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

KeyDocs is the production company of Janneke Doolaard (including Diary of a Times Square Thief, Alles komt ergens van) and Hanneke Niens (De Tweeling, Cloaca, Bride Flight) & Hans de Wolf (Antonia, Nynke, Blue Bird) of KeyFilm (Richting West, Terug naar de kust, Maite was hier, Point Taken dance films). KeyDocs previously produced Great Lengths by Ramon Gieling and currently has in production, among others, Zuid - Zedenschets van een reservaat by Natasja van Wijk, De spermadonor by Vuk Janic, and the TeleDoc John, detective human trafficking by Roy Dames.

Summary This is my picture when I was dead
Athens, 1983. The world press reports that four-year-old Bashir was killed during the murder of his father, one of the top leaders of the PLO. But what if death were not the end of his journey? Bashir would now have been 29 years old. He would have to dig through his history to discover his past and his future. And all this only to find out that the dream for which he and his father died is a nation turning against itself.

A radical approach that pushes the boundaries of the documentary ensures that This is my picture when I was dead tells a very personal story, in which reality is even stranger than fiction.

This is my Picture when I was dead is a production of iSee Film and KeyDocs, in co-production with VPRO, the American ITVS and Dubai Film Market, Enjaaz, made possible by the Netherlands Film Fund, CoBO Fund, The Royal Film Commission Jordan, Dubai International Film Festival and Film Festival Sundance.

The film was released in Dutch cinemas in late 2010 by distributor A-Film. CAT&Docs acts as the international sales agent.
