The Taliban, turbans, and terrorism. That is what is burned into the minds of many when we think of Afghanistan. But there is more to see in Afghanistan.
That is why Woest, in collaboration with Rialto, is bringing the Afghan Film Festival to Amsterdam on Saturday, November 13. For one day, Rialto will be the stage for the best Afghan films and documentaries, contemporary visual art, and music. Forget Camp Holland and immerse yourself in the Afghanistan from behind the barracks. It is time to shine a spotlight on the role of cinema, art, and culture in the country!

Through the latest feature films, short films, and documentaries, the Afghan Film Festival offers a poignant and nuanced insight into contemporary Afghan society. Various topics are covered, such as the political elections, the international peacekeeping mission, Afghan refugees, and the country's far-reaching drug problem.

But there are also debates in which filmmakers, politicians, journalists, and Afghan artists share their vision of their country. Led by writer and historian Eefje Blankevoort, the talk show Zap Afghanistan delves deeper into our own perceptions of Afghanistan. Which images from Afghanistan have stayed with us? Which have we never seen? And what have Afghans themselves been watching in recent years?

At the end of the evening, there is a special version of Rialto Laat, where the cinema is transformed into an Afghan club with DJs and VJs mixing traditional Afghan sounds and video clips with Western beats.
