The winners of the sixth edition of the National Film Festival for School Students (NFFS) have been announced. The prizes will be presented this evening, Monday, September 20, during the festive closing night of the festival at the Agora Theatre in Lelystad. Cals College from Nieuwegein finished first in three of the eight categories, and Scholengemeenschap Lelystad in two. All winners will travel to Greece in December to represent the Netherlands at the international film festival for youth: Camera Zizano.

The festival's permanent jury, consisting of Johanna ter Steege (Tirza, Last Conversation), Eddy Terstall (Vox Populi, Simon), and Maria Peters (Radeloos, Kruimeltje), was assisted in judging the films this year by Sylvia Hoeks (Tirza, De Storm), Martijn Lakemeier (winner of the 2009 Golden Calf for Best Actor - Oorlogswinter), and Sallie Harmsen (Het Paard Van Sinterklaas, Het Echte Leven).

Nick Golterman and Dyon Verkruijssen from Cals College in Nieuwegein won – just like last year – first prize in the 'live action fiction upper years' category. Their fellow students Vera Rattger and Casper Buijtendijk came first in 'animation upper years' and 'animation lower years'. Scholengemeenschap Lelystad won the '1-minute lower years' competition and 'live action middle years'.

The winning films were selected from the 166 films submitted by over 900 students aged 12 to 18. The films, originating from 51 secondary schools, were judged in the categories: animation, live action fiction, live action non-fiction, and 1-minute film. A distinction was made between students in the upper and lower years. Also, for the first time this year, the Online Award was presented to the best short film submitted by individual students via the National Online Film Festival for Students (www.hetnoffs.nl). The Netherlands Film Festival (NFF), Holland Animation Film Festival (HAFF), International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), and the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) present an incentive prize.
