The thriller REYKJAVIK - ROTTERDAM will be screened on August 25 at the Pleinbioscoop, the free festival in Rotterdam. This feature film is Iceland's Oscar submission for Best Foreign Language Film this year. A Hollywood remake is in the works, starring Mark Wahlberg (THE DEPARTED).

The thriller won many awards and premiered this year at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, after which it appeared in cinemas nationwide.

The film is a Rotterdam co-production by Dick Rijneke and Mildred van Leeuwaarden (Rotterdam Films) and the Icelandic production company Blueeyes Productions, founded by Baltasar Kormakur and Agnes Johansen. It is directed by Oskar Jonasson.

The screenplay for REYKJAVIK-ROTTERDAM was written by the Icelandic bestselling author Arnaldur Indridason, known in the Netherlands for titles such as Noorderveen and Moordkuil.

The lead roles in REYKJAVIK-ROTTERDAM are played by an Icelandic star cast and the well-known Dutch actor Victor Low.

Synopsis of the film:

Kristofer (Baltasar Kormakur) has served a long prison sentence for smuggling a large consignment of alcohol on the cargo ship where he worked and is now on probation. In dreary Reykjavik, he is increasingly sinking into second-class citizenship. When he faces the threat of losing his home as well, he has had enough. The only way to regain his self-respect and secure a decent income is to accept the tempting offer from 'friend' Steingrimur to make one more trip and pick up a cargo.
